Panorama Responsible Investment - Private Equity & Private Debt in France" study
EthiFinance presents the fourth edition of its "Panorama IR Private Equity x Dette Privée - France" study, devoted to the maturity of the Responsible Investment (RI) practices of French Portfolio Management Companies (PMCs) investing in the private equity and private debt markets. This year's sample is made up of 175 asset management companies approved by the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF).
ESG practices are becoming more widespread every year in the private equity and private debt sectors, the two asset classes that enable direct financing of the economy and are capable of generating a significant positive impact. They are stimulated by European and French regulatory reforms. The SFDR regulation, reinforced by the technical standards of 2023, imposes greater transparency on sustainability risks at company and financial product level. In 2025, ESMA's new guidelines on ESG fund designations and the announced revision of SFDR mark a key step towards greater harmonization and a reinforced fight against greenwashing, in a financial context that remains highly unfavorable.
In France, Article 29 LEC further expands transparency obligations and introduces biodiversity reporting, thus completing the requirements of the French Law on Energy Transition for Green Growth (LTECV). These developments are prompting SGPs to adapt their policies to comply with these new standards.
